Sims has been involved in Formula E since the series’ inception in 2014, initially testing cars before securing a race seat in Season Five. His highlights in his first season were a pole position and second place finish in New York. Sims had an impressive start to his second season, taking pole positions for both races of the opening round in Saudi Arabia and taking his maiden win in race two. It also made him the first driver to take three consecutive pole positions in Formula E.
The British driver began his career in motorsport aged ten, competing in karts. He won numerous national and British titles, including three Kartmasters British Grands Prix. He made the move to single seater cars in 2008, racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 UK, and came second in the Championship. This same year saw him win the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.
A highly successful single-seater career followed with highlights including five podium finishes in the 2013 FIA European F3 Championship. Sims also made the move into sports cars and proved to be equally quick, coming second in the 2015 British GT Championship, winning the Total 24 Hours of Spa in 2016, finishing second in the 2017 ADAC Zurich 24 Hour Race at the Nürburgring, and securing victories in the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
2018 saw him make the move to Formula E where he has once again demonstrated his versatility as a racing driver.
